“Fall is here, fall is here,” Amaya said as she jumped out of bed. She ran down the stairs with no time to waste. She put on her jacket, a pair of rainboots with a daisy pattern, and opened the door to head outside.
“Hold on young lady,” her mama said, “Where do you think you’re going?”
“Out to play,” exclaimed Amaya with a grin.
“Oh no, you don’t!” her mom replied, “Not without your scarf,” as she pulled a scarf with kittens from the coat hanger and wrapped Amaya all up in it until she looked sort of like……. a snowball! Amaya opened the front door and felt the briskness of the air.
“Bye, Mama,” Amaya said quite loudly in order to be heard over the abrupt gust of wind passing by. Amaya skipped and skipped until she came to a stop. Straight ahead of her stood a tree. It was a very tall and immense tree. She tilted her head up to the sky.
“Wow!” she stood in amazement. This tree had leaves that were no longer green. “They’re orange,” she giggled. “And look!” The leaves were all over the ground. She ran back to the garage faster than lightning and pulled out a rake. “Ugh,” she shrugged while pulling it out of the garage. “This is so heavy.” She dragged it across the green grass and to the tall tree with leaves under it. Then Amaya started raking and raking and raking until she had a pile. A huge pile! She then leaped into the crunchiness and threw leaves up into the air. The chilly wind carried a few away. “Fall is here! Winter is near!” Amaya said with a huge smile on her face.
