Preparing Students to Lead an Abundant Life

Knowing what is best for your child can be a challenge. Thankfully, God has provided guidance for us, not just for our own relationship with God, but for teaching our children in the ways of the Lord. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:5–7).

As Christian educators, we partner with parents to instill the truths of scripture through an education that begins with knowing our loving God. Enlightium Academy’s philosophy of Christian education rests on four pillars of education:

  1. The first principles of education (i.e., the what and the why).
  2. The teacher.
  3. The student.
  4. The nature of the learner (i.e., the how).

As we develop a holistic educational experience for students, we seek to offer more than an education in the skills students need to function in society and to make a living — we prepare students for pursuing an abundant life in service to Christ.

Training for Living

Traditional schools offer students training in the basic skills that they need to make a living and to participate in society. Students are taught to read and write, the basics of mathematics, science, and the social sciences, and they are encouraged to explore their interests through electives. Some traditional schools have abundant resources and highly-qualified teachers who present these areas of study in exceptional instructional methods. As Christians, however, we aim for more than simply landing our dream job and making informed decisions as civil servants (though those things are good!).

Training for Life

A distinctive Christian education values Christian character over curriculum content. At Enlightium Academy, we believe that by teaching children from a Christian worldview and instructing them in the ways of the Lord, we provide an education that will take them beyond successful careers and teach them strong values and moral standards. These values are instilled in them spiritually, academically, physically, socially, and emotionally:

Spiritually. Developing a biblical worldview impacts the mind, heart, and body in an ongoing life of Christian maturity and ministry in the world. Such a foundation leads to a growing practice of prayer, the study of Scripture, ongoing intellectual growth and physical health, participation in a local church and/or ministry, and a Gospel-oriented contribution to society (1 Thess. 5:23–24).

Academically. High academic standards results in academic proficiency that enables and empowers students to excel in Christ-honoring decision-making, continued academics, career goals, and life skills. This includes a mastery of core subjects, critical-thinking skills, a learner’s disposition, and an appreciation for the arts and classical literature. Enlightium has an accredited curriculum and ACSI-certified teachers who support their students in one-on-one instruction. Most importantly, all of our subjects are taught from a biblical worldview. We believe that all knowledge and truth belong to God and that He is present in all subject lessons (Colossians 1:9–10).

Physically. Just as with other spheres of life, Christians are called to honor God with their physical bodies. Students attain the knowledge and practical skills necessary for honoring one’s body as an act of faithfulness as a bearer of the image of God through the value and discipline of exercise, nutrition, hygiene, and healthy sleep patterns (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

Socially. Students are equipped and empowered to demonstrate the attitude and servant heart of Jesus Christ toward fellow humanity. Such a lifestyle is embodied in loving motivations and acts, as well as appropriately interrelating, serving, and respecting all people from all backgrounds (John 13:12–17).

Emotionally. A well-rounded understanding and practice of emotional health issues from a biblical worldview rooted in God’s benevolence toward students and the Spirit’s empowerment within students. This empowerment enables students to assess, evaluate, and respond faithfully and fruitfully to emotions, whether positive or negative, for a holistic and healthy life in Christ (Psalms 139:23–24).

Bringing up children in the knowledge of God and His laws is a difficult but vital task for parents, and one for which God has equipped you. At Enlightium Academy we want to partner with you in this work and continue to teach your children the values that they are already being taught at home. We want to cultivate a Christian character that will serve them and lead to an abundant life.

All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace,” Isaiah 54:13 .
